A Paradigm Shift for Child Welfare?

This Safe & Sound Issue brief explains an emerging issue in DEI. People in poverty and people of color are more likely to use programs and services staffed by mandated reporters. This could lead to over-surveillance, over-reporting, and inequitable consequences. The brief suggests a reform path based on a paradigm shift from mandated reporting to community support. The brief was developed with funding from the California Department of Social Services / Office of Child Abuse Prevention and support from Crankstart.
